Postgraduate programmes and MBAs

Most UK taught and research-based postgraduate Master's courses take just one year. Advanced research programmes, such as for a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), can take at least three years full time. Typical course fees are:

  • Arts £7,500 to £8,500
  • Science £8,000 to £9,950
  • Clinical £7,200 to £17,400

On average, fees for a one-year full-time Master of Business Administration (MBA) will cost between £8,500 and £15,500. Programmes at some high-profile UK business schools can cost up to £20,000.

Living in the UK can be expensive! For visa purposes, it

has been officially calculated that a student needs £6500 to live in the UK for one academic year. Unlike the tuition fees, which are fixed by the institution, the cost of living cannot be calculated to an exact or common figure. It depends on various factors, which are discussed below in detail.

All figures given here are in British pounds, for single international students and are not definitive. This page is for guidance only and wherever recommendations are made may not resemble your exact spending.
