Our purpose is to offer a high quality careers information |
advice and guidance service to students and graduates; one that is confidential, impartial, free from unlawful and unfair discrimination and welcomes diversity:
- To fulfil the university’s mission
- At the interface between students, employers and the university
- In close partnership with colleagues across the university and externally

Counselling Service
We offer a professional, confidential service, staffed by qualified and experienced counsellors.
Our service does not give advice nor tell a person what to do, nor 'solve' their concerns. It is about walking along side the person and helping clarify experience and feelings, exploring together, the persons understanding of what is happening, what it means to them, how it is affecting them and their thoughts on how to deal in the situation. As the person explains their situation/issues new perspectives may emerge, which assist the person in reducing uncomfortable thoughts or feelings and allow the person autonomy on decision making which can lead to change.
It is a respectful process based on a trusting and confidential relationship between equals.
